Training of Trainers (TOT) session: Empowering Young People to Become Effective Communicators
From the 28th of June until the 1st of July 2008, Training of Trainers sessions for young people were held in Cairo, Egypt, to prepare youth leaders in the use of ICT for the dissemination of the peace culture. These sessions were organized and facilitated by the CPI with the generous cooperation of Dale Carnegie.
The purpose of the training was to qualify a number of youth to become trainers of peace content and Cyber Peace Initiative tracks. This will allow them to serve and support the different programs of the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement in schools and youth centers. The main objective is to pass on the knowledge as in a multiplier effect among youth in diverse regions in Egypt.
The training was attended by 33 participants and covered peace content, effective usage of web tools to disseminate the culture of peace, an e-safety curriculum and soft skills. The training was administered by members of the SMWIPM’s CPI team, Net Aman youth and Dale Carnegie.
The first day consisted of a presentation on what exactly a peace culture entails and how web 2.0 tools can be of support to spread the message of peace. Furthermore, the Net Aman presented their view on internet safety and shared several ways of staying safe online.
The remainder of the training and following three days consisted of a Dale Carnegie course on effective communication and human relations skills. This unique program helps participants master the skills they need to excel in today’s competitive workplace. They learn to communicate with people in a professional manner and keep up to speed with changing working conditions.
Upon completion of the course, participants are able to perform as effective communicators and creative problem solvers. They master a taking-charge attitude that helps them to organize themselves as a confident and enthusiastic leader. The participants feel empowered to attain ambitious new goals. The program emphasizes the principles of success and shows the participants how to put them to action in everyday life.
